Jarret Wrisley

Chef, cookbook author & restaurateur

ABOUT

Jarrett Wrisley is an experienced chef, restaurateur and cookbook author. He spent a decade cooking and writing in mainland China, before moving to Bangkok in 2008. His award-winning restaurants include Soul Food Mahanakorn and Appia in Bangkok, Soul Food Thai in Hong Kong, and Shan, in Bozeman, Montana. He has been tracing the origins of Thai, Chinese, and Italian cooking traditions for the better part of 20 years in his written work, including The Roads to Rome, which was released by Penguin Random House in 2020. After 22 years in Asia, Wrisley closed several restaurants due to the pandemic, and returned to the United States. In April 2023, he opened Shan, a restaurant that reflects his Asian training and looks to the mountains of Northern Thailand and Southwest China for inspiration. In its first year, Shan was a finalist for the Best New Restaurant US, in the 2024 James Beard Foundation Awards. Wrisley lives with his wife Candice, and their son, August, in Montana.
